Detailed itineraryDay 01: Arrival Delhi
Reception at airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight in hotel.
Day 02: Delhi – Leh (3500m)
Transfer to domestic airport. Flight to Leh. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon visit to the monastery, Shanti Stupa and old fort in Leh.
Day 03: Around Leh
Full day sightseeing with a visit to Shey, Thiksey and Hemis monasteries. Return to hotel for the night.
Day 04 : Leh - Phyang (3600m) and Taru (3700m) TREK 1
Leave for Phyang. We visit the monastery and continue on to Taru. This pleasant and short day trek is necessary for acclimatization. Night in camp.
Day 05 Taru - Taru La (4200m) - Nyemo (3700m) TREK 2
The trail climbs steeply to the first pass of the trek, and descends to Nyemo Village.
Day 6 Nyemo - Nie (3800m) TREK 3
The route crosses Basgo, dominated by impressive ruined fortresses. A striking succession of chortens, sanctuaries and a palace line the path.
Day 7 Nie - Likir (3600m) TREK 4
We come to an arid and bare landscape and visit the Likir Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh.
Day 8 : Likir - Yangthang (3600m) trek 5
The route goes through two low passes, the Phobe La (3700m) and the Charatse La (3800m), opening to beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 9: Yang- Thang to Hemischukpachan ( 3600m/6 hrs) over Chermentsela (3750m) TREK 6
Leave for the big village of Schukpa (Cidar). A two-hour climb brings us to the pass, followed by a long descent to the village. We visit the gompa and explore the village. Overnight at a beautiful campsite.
Day 10: Hemischukpachan to Themisgam (3200m) over Meptekla (3750m/5.30 hrs) TREK 7
The trail passes through flat pastureland to the Meptekla, taking about 2.30 hours. It descends to Ang Village, and goes on to the Shyok Valley. Thirty minutes later we reach Temisgam, the richest valley of Ladakh. Lots of Appricot, Apple and nut trees here with a beautiful village and gompa. Camp here for the night.
Day 11: Themisgam to Khaltse- Lamayuru (2995m) over Bonbbongla (3850m/5 hrs) TREK 8
Last day of the trek. We leave the beautiful valley and do an easy climb to Bonbonbla (1.30 hrs). We follow a long gentle slope to Khaltse, the highway between Leh and Srinagar. Drive to guest house in Lamayuru.
Day 12: Lamayuru to Dah-Hanu (71 kms)
Drive along the Indus River and reach Dunkhar in the afternoon. Later visit the village. Night in a local house or guest house.
Day 13: DROKHPA AREA – This area is along the Indus River. The main villages are
Dhunkar, Tirit, Skurbuchan, Hanudo, Biama, and Dha on the road to Baltistan. The inhabitants are called Drokhpa, an Aryan race. They are tall, handsome and hospitable, with large, beautiful eyes and a sharp, equiline nose. Men, women and children wear heavy metallic earrings. Drokhpas are believed to have migrated to this area from central Asia via Gilgit, thousands of years ago. Most villages here are dominated by Muslims, with colorful mosques and a few Buddhist houses with small Gompas.
Take a stroll in Biama and a two-kilometer trek to Dah. In the afternoon, cross the Indus to Balrase Village. Leave for Dah, with several villages on the way including Skurbuchan with apricot orchards. Achinathang and Biama are famous for pashmina wool, sheep breeding and handicrafts. Night in a guest house or in a local family house.
Day 14: Dah-Hanu to Leh via Alchi (140 kms)
Drive back to Leh via Alchi, the oldest monastery in Ladakh. Reach Leh in the afternoon. Rest and free time. Night in hotel.
Day 15: Around Leh
Visit Stok Palace and museum. Stroll in the village and visit Spituk Monastery. Afternoon leisure time and night in hotel.
Day 16: Leh – Delhi flight
Transfer to Leh airport. Flight to Delhi. Transfer to hotel. Leisure afternoon. Overnight in hotel.
